Dry skin can be so uncomfortable. I think we can all agree that it feels so much better to have smooth, supple and moisturized skin over flaky and dry skin. There are a lot of great moisturizing products out there, but so many of them are expensive and just not worth the price. I struggle with dry skin often so I have been able to come up with 5 tips for dry skin, including some great home remedies that don’t cost $50 to create and they work like a charm!
1 – Cover up when you clean up. Whenever you are cleaning or working with detergents/household cleaners/harsh soaps, use gloves! You can get a pair of cleaning gloves for $5 at the grocery store or online. These babies will save your skin from chemicals or irritants sapping all the moisture from your hands and arms. Not to mention these cleaners can cause damage to bare skin over time.
2 – Vitamin E is amazing. Try picking up a pack of powdered Aveeno skin relief bath treatments (they run about $10 – $15). If you’re on a tight budget, there’s another great alternative that works just as well. Simply take a cup of oats and mix them in with your warm bath water.
The oats still carry good amounts of vitamin E that will help heal and rehydrate your skin. For a little treat, I put in a little vanilla extract with the oats when I get in the bath! I come out smelling like a cookie and my skin feels amazing.
3 – Olive oil. I take olive oil baths as well, and it’s a great way to relax after a stressful day. I fill a bath with warm water, add in 2 tablespoons of olive oil, mix it around and get in! I usually let my skin soak for around 15-20 minutes.
So grab a magazine or your favorite book, a little olive oil and enjoy your relaxing bath! *Be sure to be careful when getting out, and warn anyone else in the house after this bath! It gets very slippery! Make sure to wipe the tub out soon after*
4 – Hydrate from the inside out. Water can be drying to the skin from the outside, but nothing will hydrate you better from the inside. Keep drinking water throughout the day! Carry a water bottle around with you or keep a cup of it near you whenever you’re working or studying.
Fish is a great source of omega 3’s and fatty oils, both of which help your skin retain more moisture! I would say the best type of fish to eat would be salmon, it has some of the highest levels of fatty oils. Not to mention, yum!
5 – Get some beauty rest! Just don’t do it with your makeup on! When you sleep, your body goes into beast mode creating more collagen throughout the skin. Collagen is what helps our skin retain water! Without it, moisture goes right through, like a plant that hasn’t been watered for a couple days. The soil is so dry that the water doesn’t grip on to anything and 80% of it ends up draining. For an extra boost to help your skin while you’re sleeping, try a humidifier! The skin will stay moist from all the extra humidity in the air and you can help your body heal itself. Speaking of which, it’s time to get some sleep for me!(∪。∪)。。。zzz
I hope these tips helped you!
