Hello!
This post has actually been one of the most challenging posts I’ve ever had to write. I was surprised at how truly difficult it was to come up with things to say about myself.
That being said, I was also surprised at how easy it was for me to look at the blogger I was paired with, and to find endless amounts of things to admire about them.
Body Unashamed is a project (nee, a movement) started by Penny to help encourage us all (not just women) to stop being so hard on ourselves. To try to embrace the things we may not like about ourselves, alongside the things we may like a lot!
We are each paired with a blogger, and I was lucky enough to be paired with a girl named Hayley who writes the blog at
Hayley is a beautiful girl with amazing fashion style and a sense of adventure.
Not only did I find some great places that I now definitely want to visit, I found great fashion and beauty tips; even a delicious cookie recipe (that I’m going to make this weekend!) on her blog!
Hayley is obviously very creative and intelligent, and that shows through in her writing. I must have gone through 40+ posts, completely enthralled with her style and flair!
That is not to mention that she is also a huge animal lover, another big plus in my book.
It’s hard to look through someone’s blog and try to pick out 3 things that you like about them.
With Hayley, I feel like I hit the jackpot! There are so many great qualities to her writing and personality that I found it super difficult to try to pin down 3 things out of everything I liked.
But I did my best, so here are my top 3!
1 – Her beautiful hair. She looks amazing with it long or short, red or black!
2 – Her writing. She seems so approachable and friendly, it makes reading her blog posts all the more fun.
3 – Her travel posts ignite my inner nomad and make me want to really start exploring the world!
The way she writes makes you feel like a passenger on her adventures, they are some of my favorite posts of hers to read.
I wasn’t sure how to start this portion of #bodyUNashamed, because to be honest I never really stop to look at myself or the things I like about me. If at all possible, I duck and cover from mirrors, pictures, etc.
It’s hard to look at yourself without picking out every little thing you want changed, removed, whatever the case may be. But I decided that today I would look in the mirror and shut off my brain before anything negative could come in to focus.
The degree of discomfort I felt only proved to me that it is so sad how programmed we all are to take one look at ourselves and see only flaws. I stared a little while longer and started to realize that I was picking out things that I didn’t want to tuck, pull, tighten, suck in, push out, etc.
1 – I like the color of my eyes. Everyone else in my family has brown eyes (aside from my Grammy), and I was lucky enough to get eyes that people can never seem to decide if they are green or blue.
2 – Likewise, everyone in my family has very thick, dark hair. I have very fine light hair. It used to make me self-conscious being so different from everyone else in my family, but now I see them as little blessings.
I didn’t want to just focus on the physical things, because we are all hard on ourselves for a lot more than just our appearances, aren’t we?
3 – My loyalty and passion. I stand by my friends and loved ones to a fault. I have always been the first one to step in to speak up for someone or something that I care about (even though this has resulted in negatives more than once). But I think passion is so important in people.
And I know I have passion!
So, there it is.
My #bodyUNashamed experience was a good one, to say the least.
I feel like I could do this with every blog I read! It was so much fun going through old posts
and really trying to get to know someone through their blog.
I hope there are more projects like this in the future,
and I am truly honored to have been a part of it.
Thank you all so much.
